It’s here!
The Stew-Mac box with the last of my tools arrived today! Of course, I had to fondle them immediately. As a kid, I always loved shopping for new school supplies. I would bring them home, lay them out and cop crayon feels, marveling at the sharpness. I feel the same way about new tools. I think it must be the sense of potential: in these tools could be any number of wonderful and gorgeous things. I have not screwed up anything yet to make me think otherwise.
I told Scott that he could consider this stuff as a part of his Christmas shopping. When he busted my chops about opening the box today, instead of waiting for Christmas, I gave him a steely gaze and asked "And are YOU going to wrap it?" He knew he was done for; he hates wrapping. Uh-huh–that’s what I thought.
From left to right, we have my new jeweler’s saw for cutting the pearl, 5 green vials of carbide router bits, a Dremel collet adapter I’m not entirely sure I need, but the website said get one, so I did. Marketing works! The router base attachment for the Dremel, and the mother (and father, and several children) of all superglues, and a fine selection of sandpapers and micro finishing papers. The glues and papers came with instructions of their own. They must be fancy!
I also set up a pair of sawhorses so I can cut up the big chunks of wood this weekend. I have a wee circular saw and I’ve been carrying around the directions in my purse to read when I get a chance. I won’t be much of a guitar player if I lose a finger or two. I might keep the door on the bottom of the pile of that wood and use it on the sawhorses as another work surface. We’ll see.
The green abalone has shipped, but I haven’t heard on the MOP and the paua shipping yet. I need to read the instructions on my various tools and get them set up, chop up some smaller blocks of wood, and pick a design to start with before it gets here, and then I’m on my way. This is going to be so cool. Or a total, expensive disaster. Let’s all hope for "cool," shall we?
